The 47th edition of the European Brass Band Championships (EBBC) was officially opened today at the Brucknerhaus Linz with a festive Opening Ceremony. Governor of Upper Austria, Mag. Thomas Stelzer together with the Director of Culture and Society of the Federal State of Upper Austria Mag.a Margot Nazzal, City Councillor for Culture Affairs Doris Lang-Mayerhofer and Ulf Rosenberg, President of the European Brass Band Association (EBBA), welcomed participants and guests to this prestigious international event.
Until 26 April, Linz will host 30 bands from 16 nations competing across four categories, bringing together some of Europe’s finest brass musicians.
Following the ceremony, the celebrations continued in the city centre with a concert by the Upper Austrian Military Band, marking the opening of the “Brass Mile” at the main square. Around 450 musicians are performing with free admission along the Donaulände and Landstraße, creating a vibrant musical atmosphere throughout the city.
“European Brass Band Championships bring together musical excellence at the highest level with a vision to rethink and further develop artistic boundaries,” said Governor Stelzer. “Hosting this outstanding international event in Upper Austria highlights our strength as a cultural region and reinforces our role as a place where culture connects and inspires people.”
